“Behind the laboratory apparatus are a huge army of dedicated professionals that also deserve to be celebrated.”
The Nigerian Universities Nursing Students’ Association, NUNSA UNILAG Chapter brings to you her Health week 2018 themed “Valistus” – The enlightenment of the public about Nursing beyond preconceived notions.
According to Donahue (1996), the Nursing profession is one of the oldest and youngest of professions which dispenses comfort, passion, and care even without prescription.
Despite this, many people look down on the profession and underrate what nurses do. This health week serves as a medium to correct these faulty notions of the public, especially the youth, which forms the majority of the community and the nation as a whole.
The Health Week is an annual program that serves to broaden the minds of students on the profession. It is also an opportunity to give back to the society through humanitarianism.
This year, the NUNSA Health week starts on the 1st of December, 2018 and ends on the 8th of December, 2018.
It will kick off with a Sports Day on the 1st of December, with activities such as indoor games, marathons etc. This will be followed by the Awareness Walk on the 2nd of December, during which the Nunsites will go around the school community to sensitize and mobilize students toward the Health Week.
On the 3rd of December, there would be a Medical Outreach. Nunsites will be going to neighbouring communities to dispense free health care. Checking of Vital signs, blood sugar level ,Body Mass Index (BMI), and health talks are some of the activities that would take place that day.
On the 4th of December, different representatives from various classes would send in their representatives for the Cooking competition.
The event continues with an Academic Symposium on the 5th of December where professionals from various field in Nursing are invited to enlighten the students on the Nursing profession proceeding with a debate. The long awaited NUNSA Dinner then holds on the 7th day with a native setting; Nunsites are expected to put on their native wears in reference to their culture. The whole event is then wrapped up with a Fun Trip to the Beach on the 8th of December.
The Academic symposium is going to be scheduled with a debate which the topic is “Euthanasia ; murder or patients right” which would be debated by two teams ; Team A and Team B. Each level would send their representatives for the debate. Refreshments would also be served this day.
The Dinner would be holding at LASUCOM Hall starting by 7pm and ending by 11pm. Awards would be presented to some reputable people in NUNSA.
Lets all come together to learn and educate our minds.
