It is unspeakable and abhorrent to conceive the idea where fellow compatriots are racketer who extort their fellow inhabitants in a very bizarre means. Speaking of, The COVID-19 has been a pandemic in every continent except Antarctica. The plague has seized its position in world news outlets putting every heartbeat at a racing alarm.

The only medium which is generally postulated as prophylactic, by every minded-humans is face mask and sanitizer. These items are now been sold at an inflated price. Thus, rendering the average-man vulnerable to this virus. If Nigeria were the origin of coronavirus, with this diabolical monetization of the virus, with pharmaceutical and online stores exhorbitantly increasing the price of face mask and sanitizer, there is a high probability that half of the population would have been lost to this deadly virus.

In a situation where a box of 50 masks in the open market has risen from N700 to N3,500 now. Sanitizer cost is equivalent to that of a bag of rice. This is clearly unjust, ludicrous and high-handed. Every corner of the world especially Asian are in intense anxiety and tension. Which is why myriads have made the purchase and stockpiling of these masks as a number one priority, but we, Nigerians tend to grab this opportunity as ‘golden’.

The use of mask is not mandatory for usage, for the uninfected. According to infection prevention specialist Eli Perencevich, Those masks are designed to keep droplets in (the infected) and are intended to keep the wearer from getting others sick.

Nigerians have taken to their twitter accounts to complain about the hiked prices of hand sanitizers and face masks. A Nigerian with the twitter handle Tami A reported Jumia to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) for increasing the price of a 235ml bottle of hand sanitizer to #45,000.

Another twitter user Jason Curtis expressed his disappointment in the AmazonUK online store for using people’s fears and anxieties to make profit.

The novel coronavirus has killed more than 3,000 people and has infected nearly 9,000 people. We should all be of helping hands not thwarting guards.
