71-Year-Old Emerges Best Ph.D Graduate And Oldest Graduate In UNILAG


A 71-year-old Ph.D. student of the University of Lagos, Felicia Marinze has bagged the best graduating students’ feat from Unilag’s School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS).

From the Department of European Languages and International Studies, Mrs. Marinze (Ph.D. in French) is also the oldest Ph.D. degree awardee in university history.

In a report filed earlier by Premium Times, this was announced by the Vice-Chancellor of the University, Oluwatoyin Ogundipe at a news conference in preparation for University 51st convocation on the 30th, Wesnesday.

The Vice-chancellor explained that that the 71-year-old has shown to the world that age was never a barrier.

Mrs. Marinze together with Olatunji Moruf from the Department of Marine Science and Ekundayo Mesagan of the Department of Economics would be awarded the best Ph.D. thesis in Humanities.

Also, speaking at the event, the vice-chancellor announced that 281 of the 15,753 students would be graduating in the first-class upper-division.
