As at today March 21, 2022, official data confirms that University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) leads in medal wins in the ongoing Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition hosted by the University of Lagos.

As it stands, UNIPORT athletes have racked up 14 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 9 bronze medals corresponding to a cumulative of 28 medals.

Coming second in medal wins in this circumstance is the University of Lagos (UNILAG) with 4 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 4 bronze medals. UNILAG athletes have therefore accumulated a total of 14 medals — half that of UNIPORT’s.

Nile University of Nigeria also managed to accumulate half of UNILAG’s total medal wins, amounting to a total of 7 medal wins — 3 gold medals, 2 silver and 2 bronze medals.

While this has created a beautiful pattern in medal wins in the first three high winning universities, other competing universities have also offered their best at NUGA2022.

The competition which commenced with the arrival of universities on March 16 is slated to end by March 27.

With Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE) and Benson Idahosa University (BIU) having a total of 5 medal wins, the competition promises a very entertaining turn in the coming days.

Also, worthy of note are University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) and University of Benin (UNIBEN) accumulating 4 total medals, while Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) and University of Nigeria (UNN) having 3 medal wins.
