Alleged missing 100 Level UNILAG student found

On Tuesday, April 5th, 2022, it was declared that one Miss Olatunji Rebecca Olawunmi, 100 level student of the Department of Educational Management, Faculty of Education, University of Lagos was missing and was last seen on Thursday, March 31st, 2022.

The news and multiple reports of her disappearance were shared across various social media platforms in a bid to discover her whereabouts.

Different information were gathered, some of which claimed that Rebecca had issues with her guardian with whom she was living and this resulted in her sudden disappearance.

While some reports claimed that she ran away from home due to scolding from her guardian, others said she was cohabiting with a man or boyfriend  et cetera et cetera.

According to Mr Toyeeb, General Secretary of Education Management Student Association (EMSA) who spoke with Rebecca’s father, he [the father]confirmed the story that his daughter had been missing since Thursday the 31st of March 2022 and that she left home at about 7 p.m. that day without informing anyone of her whereabouts.

Friends of Rebecca said prior to her disappearance, she lived around Shomolu area of Lagos State and was spotted around Abule-Ijesha on Friday walking towards for Fola Agoro.

Another said she was seen around Alaka and its environs. She has also been spotted at Sabo, buying food.

However, Mr Toyeeb confirmed that Olatunji Rebecca Olawunmi has been found early this afternoon [today Wednesday, April 6th 2022].

Dean, Students Affairs; Security Officers; School Counselor; Rebecca’s guardian and Rebecca herself were present in school.

It was gathered that she left home around 7 p.m. in the evening of the day she went missing after being accused of deducting 10,000 naira from the 25,000 naira she was sent to withdraw from the bank.

Responding to interview by a School Counselor, Rebecca said: “My mum asked me to withdraw 25,000 naira from the bank, I don’t know how I did it but 10,000 naira got missing.”

She said her bag wasn’t in good condition and must be the cause of the missing money.

The counselor insisted that the whole 25,000 naira would have fallen off if the bag’s damage was to be blamed.

Rebecca admitted to running off to stay with a female friend of hers named Seun who is currently unemployed, in order to avert the problem at her home with her parents.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos has been made aware of the issue and investigations are currently still ongoing.
