The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has suspended its eight-month-old industrial strike following its National Executive Council meeting that ended on Friday, 14th October 2022.
The decision was made at the conclusion of the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, which was held at the ASUU secretariat in Abuja, The Punch reports.
According to the report, a knowledgeable source within the NEC confirmed the suspension of the strike, saying, “Yes, it has been called off.”
Members of the ASUU’s National Executive Committee comprise national executives and the chairs of the union’s state chapters.
The source added that “the president will make an official circular in the morning” when pressed for further information.
According to a UNILAGNEWS report, the academic union began its strike on Monday, February 14, 2022.
The Court of Appeal had ordered ASUU to cease its strike before the union’s appeal on the judgment directing lecturers to resume work could be heard.
