The senate of the University of Lagos has approved the establishment of one research institute and five research centres in the University. The senate approved the proposal of the institute and the five research centres at its meeting on the 29th of March 2017.
With the approval to establish this research institute and centres, many in the University community especially students have expressed positive views that the establishment of the research institute and centres is a welcome one, which will put the University of Lagos in the high rankings of research in the country and beyond.
The research institute and centres approved are; Institute of Africa and Diaspora Studies, Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management, Centre for Environmental Human Resources Development, Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Research, Centre for Human and zoonotic Virology and Centre for Autism and Nuero-Developmental Studies.
The proposed research institute; Institute of Africa and Diaspora Studies will be domiciled in the Faculty of Art. The faculty of science will host two of the research centres, which are; Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management, and Centre for Environmental Human Resources Development.
The Faculty of Social Sciences will host the Centre for Economic Policy Analysis and Research, while The Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences and the Faculty of Clinical Sciences will host the Centre for Human and zoonotic Virology and Centre for Autism and Nuero-Developmental Studies respectively.
