The Ngozi Agbo Media and Summit; A Legacy (2)

At the just concluded much anticipated 6th Ngozi Agbo media and summit, hosted by the Press Club UNILAG, we were honoured to have great caliber of people from academia, journalism and politics.

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development Service) – Prof. Folasade Ogunsola in her opening speech, encouraged students and the participants, stating that, “whatever level you get to in life, do not be satisfied; dare to push for more… because satisfaction brings about a feeling that does not allow one to see that there are higher heights to achieve”. She also commended the Press body on a job well done and stated that as press men we should continually probe into the truth about incidences and write them from a perspective of fact and the truth.

 

Pioneer president of The Press Club University of Lagos – Mr Tosin Adesile – in his remarks, also admonished campus journalists on how as press men we need to write stories that will cause a change, and that we can only remain relevant by writing stories that talks about the important occurrences on campus.

However, Law Students’ Society (LSS) have proved to be competent in their essay game, as the first 3 winners of The Ngozi Agbo Essay Competition – to our amazements namely Gbarada Olusogo, Obiora Samson and Olufowobi David – came from the faculty of law.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Also Debate Session on the topic, “Regulation of Social Media; A Necessity”, which had Press Mbama Chisom – a 500L student of the College of Medicine Nursery department and Caleb Olonitola of the 300L, Faculty of Education, Department of Business Education – as the detabers, was very informative and refreshing. Producing Chisom Mbama and Caleb Olonitola as First and Second Position respectively.

A free certified Digital training by google expert was also giving to participants and the Panel Discussion was by prominent journalist from various media houses in Nigeria, who were actively involved in campus journalism and had enough experience and knowledge on the topic of discussion – sustaining the relevance of campus journalism in our swift changing digital age.

Other guests at the summit included, Dr Benjamin Olojebutu of BOFoundation, Mr Lekan Otufodunrin – Patron of TPC UNILAG and Editor, The Nations Newspaper, Mr Agbo Agbo, Mrs C. Odibo – CEO, SazBag by Mahuemolen, Mr Badamosi Olalere (BOG) – Lagos State governorship candidate, Mr Tope Fasua – ANRP Presidential candidate, Immediate past president of NUCJ among others.
