In a tweet earlier today, February 28th 2020, the Federal Ministry of Health confirms that Nigeria now have a patient with the deadly coronavirus. The patient is an Italian citizen, working in Nigeria. He was confirmed to be a carrier of the deadly virus, that have killed over 2,700 people already, at the University of Lagos Teaching Hospital’s virology laboratory.
This was announced less than six hours after Tolu Ogunlesi, Special Assistant to the President on New Media, claimed that Nigeria now have four fully-equipped facilities to combat the deadly virus if it ever come to Nigeria.

Already, social media reactions to the news have shown people’s lack of trust in the government’s ability to curb the spread of the virus. Some express concerns over the large population of Lagos, citing it as a disadvantage that could potentially make the number of victims increase within a very short time.

Meanwhile, reports from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirms that the patient is “clinically stable, with no serious symptoms” and currently at the Infectious Disease Hospital, Yaba”.
