The National Association of Philosophy students (NAPS) UNILAG CHAPTER held an orientation for her freshers on the 27th of February 2020. The event themed “Pursuing Your Passion and the Impact of Philosophy” took place at the Julius Berger Hall, University of Lagos.
In the course of the event, Professor Douglas Anele, the HOD of the department and a notable atheist in the University community, informed a fresher that Philosophy have no negative impact on, instead, it was the best decision he ever made. This answer stemmed from a question the fresher had asked concerning the effects of philosophy on one’s worldview and life.
The Don clarified that he didn’t denounce religion because of philosophy, rather he denounced it in his final year in secondary school. According to him, to say God will give you a purpose in life will diminish the essence of humanity.
