Ever done something that captured your whole attention? It kept you doing that for hours and just couldn’t stop!

Maybe, you went online and got hooked on Solitaire- a card game, or you started reading a novel, “We won’t fade into the darkness” by TJ Benson. You could simply be immersed in watching endless funny TikTok videos. Or it varies from starting that new hobby of yours to working on your life-long career, to whatever pops into your mind when you read this.

What gets you hooked?

Does it give you pleasure to do them? Or do you carry out mundane tasks and feel bored all day long? Interestingly, you can find pleasure in the weirdest of things.

Just being right about that argument with a friend about the football match last weekend could put you in high spirits. Or you could be playing Call of Duty and suddenly reach a new level and be all ecstatic about it, or the surprise of light all day long got you feeling excited and happy. It could be anything.

One of my biggest thrills for me still is sitting down with a guitar or a piano and just out of nowhere trying to make a song happen.Paul McCartney

During these times, I have found a release from everything going on. By sitting myself down and turning thoughts into words that I type on my laptop. And constantly thinking of how I can encourage myself in these times and vice-versa, You. I have gotten myself addicted to watching Korean Dramas and Anime series and even started on Chinese Dramas. Yup, I need all the excitement, action, and romance I can get.

What keeps you occupied these days?

You could be the type that does not relate to anything I have said and simply lives every day wondering when to sleep, wake up, and eat. Excitement might be foreign to you and everything around you either irritates or frustrates you.

Feeling tired of repeating the same things every day, achieving nothing, and probably like me- a bit of a procrastinator? What you need is a solution!

The question lies in “What Next?”.

Enthusiasm is the electricity of life. How do you get it? You act enthusiastic until you make it a habit.

Think back to when you were little and do a fast track to now. Do you recall anything that might have intrigued you and that you wanted to try?

A time like now is a good opportunity. You might encounter obstacles in the process, but you can ask for help from people around you. Help can go a long way in assisting you to achieve the goals that you never thought you could achieve by yourself. All it took for me was talking to a friend, she encouraged me and here I am, writing my heart away.

There is no pleasure in having nothing to do; the fun is having lots to do and not doing it.Andrew Jackson

Sometimes, we have something in mind to do but do not know how to put it into action. We even attempt it but find ourselves postponing it till we never actually do it.

Excuses are easy to make, quick to stick, and never run empty. Whenever you find yourself doing this, rest a bit, and then try again. Always keep trying.

You could want to start a YouTube account to show your skills to people or want to begin work on your coding skills. You could even be thinking of starting up a business but need to set up a plan for it.

Do not think of it as an impossible thing to achieve. Rather break up what you need to do into S.M.A.R.T (Specific, measurable, attainable, reasonable, time-bound) goals. Makes it easier for you to achieve those goals and fulfil your dreams. Easy might be an understatement as you would still require commitment, hard work and perseverance but it’s achievable.

It’s possible that all you need to be happy is listening to music, reading comic books, playing games, watching series, expressing yourself in writing like I do or being more poetic and delving into poetry.

There are a thousand and many more things that you could like and do to keep yourself happy.

Find it and stick to it.

Interest is the most important thing in life; happiness is temporary, but interest is continuous.Georgia O’Keeffe

Life is all about what you make of it. Simply find something worth doing and keep yourself happy.
