The Insurance Students Association, in collaboration with the Actuarial Club, hosted the National Risk Compendium (NRC) 2.0 at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium at the University of Lagos on the 11th of May 2023.

The event’s theme was “AI in Underwriting: Improving Efficiency & Accuracy,” and it aimed to inspire and motivate young professionals interested in risk management.

NRC 2.0 brought together experts and emerging talents in risk management to chart the industry’s development. The event featured two keynote speakers, Steve Ajudua, Chief Distribution Officer at Coronation Financial Distributors, and Fagbile Ademola, Recruitment Lead at Proten International.

Ajudua discussed the impact of mindset on business processes and urged the audience to leverage AI and digital technology to support and improve efficiency in businesses.

“Expecting the world to treat you fair just because you are a good person is just like expecting the bull not to charge at you because you are a vegetarian.”

Ajudua said.

Ademola stressed the importance of having quality peers, building a trustworthy network, and making sure the right presence is known about oneself.

“The real world is not an educational institution, the real world is business. If you do not have value, you can’t keep your job… education is meant to open the doors, value keep you there”

Ademola said.

In addition, the event featured a case study challenge competition, in which five teams of four individuals each participated in.

Team Elite, comprising four talented UNILAG students, Adejoke Olaosebikan, Chukwuemeka Nnachi, Munachi Iwuozo, and Ola Akanni, stood out with their innovative “Smart Insure” initiative and won the grand prize of ₦200,000.
