Campus journalism in Nigeria is set to experience a new wave as one of its leading student-controlled associations presents its maiden edition of the Global Campus Journalism Summit (GCJS), and 36th Induction Ceremony.
The Union of Campus Journalists, University of Ibadan, is the chief media hub of the university and the mother body of all 70 plus press organizations on its campus. Through its summit and a plethora of activities; including the presence of top professionals and industry experts, the union aims to unite campus journalists from different parts of the world. Its induction ceremony is an annual event to admit new members into the union.
The 2024 Global Campus Journalism Summit (GCJS) is themed “The Future Of Journalism In Nigeria: Press Censorship, Digital Misinformation and the Missing Perspectives”, while the 36th Induction Ceremony is themed “The Campus Journalist’s Creed: Ethics, Accountability and Impact”. Both events will be held at the KAAF Auditorium, Human Nutrition Department, University of Ibadan on Saturday, 30th November, 2024.
Furthermore, the union, on the same day, will launch her sessional magazine; CAMPULSE ‘24, lwhich is a compilation of works from campus journalists nationwide.
According to the association, in their press release, the summit promises to be an awakening moment for campus journalists – to foster meaningful networks among experts, unions and fellow students; to bridge the gaps between campus and mainstream journalism; and importantly, to nurture positive growth within Nigerian universities and beyond.
The event is set up to begin by 8 pm.
