The Federal Government has begun to release the June 2025 salaries of lecturers and other tertiary institution-based workers, following the strike action announced by some member chapters of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) this week.

Following this payment, these chapters of ASUU wrote to their members to resume work.

The chapters of the union across certain federal universities had declared a no-pay-no-work policy, following what they described as consistent delay in payment of monthly salaries over five months.

The delay was attributed by the chairperson of the union, Prof. Chris Pinuwa, to the migration of academics from the IPPIS platform to the GIFMIS platform, which the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation seems to oppose.

But now, memoranda were received by Tafawa Balewa University, Federal University, Kashere, University of Jos that indeed, salaries have been paid and lecturers are back to work.

According to The Punch, the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in a recent statement, noted that:

“The current atmosphere of stability across tertiary institutions was the result of sustained dialogue, mutual respect, and genuine commitment by the present administration to address the demands of academic and non-academic staff unions.

“He reassured the academics that the government would not relent in improving working conditions and protecting the academic calendar.”
