Every campus has a pulse — a voice that captures the experiences, views, and stories of its people. That voice is Campus Journalism.
Here at The Press Club, University of Lagos, we are committed to serving the university community with content that informs, educates, entertains, shapes narratives, fosters dialogue, and amplifies voices that may otherwise go unheard.
We are the foremost journalism organisation at the University of Lagos similar to the Union of Campus Journalists or the Association of Campus Journalists in other tertiary institutions across Nigeria. The Press Club, UNILAG is duly registered with the Student Affairs Division and operates in line with its motto, “Information for Education.”
Since inception, the club has continued to keep the university community and beyond better informed through timely news reports, punchy editorials, insightful features, opinions and articles — all produced in strict adherence to the ethics of journalism.
As the students’ mouthpiece, The Press Club maintains a cordial yet objective relationship with the university management, students, external media organisations, and mother bodies of journalism in Nigeria.
In an age where misinformation spreads like wildfire, The Press Club stands as a reliable source of truth, providing verified news and accurate commentaries. Our goal is to ensure the university community remains well-informed about important events, activities, and updates. We bring creativity and excellence to our storytelling, and we bring accuracy, clarity, and credibility to information.
But beyond news, we bring opportunity for development. Being part of The Press Club is more than writing or reporting; it is a training ground for media enthusiasts, creatives, and change-makers. Our members gain hands-on experience in news reporting and writing, multimedia production, advocacy, and industry exposure. We are committed to empowering students to tell great stories in every way possible.
And importantly, The Press Club, UNILAG is open to students from all faculties and departments — not just those in the arts or Mass Communication. Whether you study Engineering, Medicine, Law, Science, Education, or any other discipline, there is room for you here. If you can tell a story, analyse issues, write articles, ask questions, create content, or simply have a passion for information, then this club is for you.
You can be a part of the community by joining as a member and contributing your stories, your creativity, and your voice.

The club serves as a medium to hone your craft whether it is writing, reporting, content creation, photography, graphic design, research, creative expression or social impact advocacy.
You become part of a healthy, supportive community that gives you all the push, mentorship, and exposure you need for continuity and growth in your skills. You gain confidence, build a portfolio, make meaningful connections, and develop the discipline and excellence needed in the media industry.
Beyond this, the club hosts the Tosin Adesile Essay Contest annually, a prestigious essay competition for undergraduate students at the University of Lagos offering not just prizes, but recognition and growth.
We also host Press Week, an annual celebration of campus journalism, community building and social impact. It is a week-long set of activities that includes outreaches, social impact initiatives, discussions among professionals and students on journalistic matters and more.
Here’s why you need us:
University of Lagos is an institution that is really full of life, but every Akokite knows there are days the campus experience tests you, from accommodation challenges to portal issues, power or water problems, academic pressure or navigating lecturer-student dynamics.
This is where we come in.
• When hostel issues arise: bed-space allocation confusion, allocation delays, or facility concerns– we listen to students, gather facts and amplify their experiences through responsible reporting.
• When the student portal issues arise: delays, glitches, or errors– we provide clarity, updates and verified information.
• When academic or departmental issues surface, we give students a platform to speak, ask questions, and be heard.
• When students excel and create impact, we tell their stories so the entire community sees what Akokites are capable of. Through our social impact initiatives, we engage directly with the issues that matter to students. We prioritize listening, providing solutions through advocacy, information dissemination, and campus-driven journalism.
We will be introducing our Monthly Town Hall on X (formerly Twitter) — a live, open conversation for Akokites (Unilag and Medilag).
Each month, we will host discussions on one pressing issue affecting students: accommodation, academic concerns, welfare, faculty matters, etc. This platform brings every student together to learn, share experiences and feel heard.
Here is why we matter:
• We bring truth, creativity, and impact to campus journalism.
• We keep you informed on university and education news.
• We are the students’ mouthpiece and your trusted platform for quality, engaging content.
• We reflect the realities of campus life and hold space for conversations that matter.
• We prepare the next generation of journalists, writers, public speakers, intellectuals, and leaders through training, exposure, and hands-on experience.
So, we invite students and the wider university community to engage with us and make meaningful contributions.
This is our table and it is one where everyone belongs.
Welcome to The Press Club, University of Lagos.
