Here I am, vibrant and full of life,
imagining university without strife,
leaving home to start a new life,
anxiety could be cut with a knife.
Moving in hostel full of smiles,
happily starting the journey due for miles,
didn’t know it was a life full of lies,
one that brings tears to the eyes.
Leaving home bundled in greens,
few weeks in school wiped off my grin,
handouts, assignment? Not my scene,
foodstuff, swiping my pocket clean.
I never knew life could be so mean,
look at me so lean,
no alawi, can’t afford,
sometimes a bean,several things my eyes have seen.
Holidays? Yay,
I’m finally getting away,
I’ll definitely overstay,
whiling away my day,
I’ll regain my fat if I may,
after raiding everything with my hands I lay.
Away with no dime,
it’s nothing but a nightmare,
missing mom’s care,
hostels are for those who dare,
sometimes one can’t bear,
Penniless, one could only stare.
So here I am, a broke student.
